Feed Portland Metro families by donating your extra food
Don’t let extra food go to waste! Help us get it to the families who need it.
We accept donations from individuals and businesses! At Urban Gleaners, we believe in providing equitable access to high-quality, nourishing foods as an act of investing in resilient communities, so we take the quality of the food we distribute seriously. Please review our food donation requirements
We welcome wholesome, edible food, including fresh produce, unserved leftovers from catered events, and food that has passed its “best by” date but is still good. As a general rule of thumb, before donating to food-insecure families, please consider whether you would eat the food yourself. All items must be in clean, unopened condition.
We cannot accept heavily dented or rusted canned goods, shelf-stable pantry items that are more than a year expired, food that is spoiled, or packages that have already been opened. We currently do not have the capacity to harvest backyard fruit.
*If you have an abundance of backyard fruit, you can contact our friends at Portland Fruit Tree Project!
Donors who provide food in good faith are protected by both state and federal Good Samaritan laws that were designed both to encourage donation of needed foods and to protect donors. More info here.
Thanks for your support and commitment to reducing food insecurity and waste in our community!
Food Donation Expectations
Individual donations
Individuals can stop by the warehouse anytime between 9am and 3pm Monday-Saturday to drop off food donations and receive an optional in-kind donation tax receipt.
Business Donations
If you are a business looking to donate food or have unserved leftovers from an event, we are sometimes able to schedule pickups for donations over 100 lbs.
We can bring storage bins, cambros and any necessary containers to pick up your unsold food on a regular schedule. Thanks to our team of volunteers, we can also accept donations at our Central Portland warehouse and accommodate one-time donations.
To coordinate a pickup, please email info@urbangleaners.org or call (503) 226-8061, leave a voicemail and we will get back to you.
