Tracy Oseran, Founder and Executive Director
Tracy started Urban Gleaners in 2006 with the simple observation that there were hungry people in the Portland community who could be fed with good edible food that was being thrown away everyday in our city. Urban Gleaners found eager recipients for the rescued food at several local organizations that feed the hungry. Tracy was previously the owner of a catering company in Los Angeles and sold a packaged food product in local grocery stores. Her love of food and interest in community activism was a natural combination that led to the founding of Urban Gleaners.
Diana Foss, Director of Operations
Diana has taught astronomy, run for governor of California, designed knitting patterns and written database software, and now she is thrilled to be working at Urban Gleaners, continuing her passion for connecting people to their foodshed. Diana comes to Portland by way of San José, where she cooked and farmed at Veggielution Urban Farming Project and created Veggie Box, an oasis of organic produce and groceries in the downtown food desert.
Ashley Hess, Director of Development
Ashley grew up on an organic farm here in Oregon. Together with her husband and toddler, she remotely farms a small herd of miniature cattle and occasionally raises a turkey or ten. A fan of innovation, efficiency and thriving communities, her passion for fundraising and food pairs perfectly with the mission and work of Urban Gleaners.
John Campaine, Driver
John has been Urban Gleaners’ driver since 2009, and is an essential member of our team. John does regular pick-up and delivery routes, as well as stepping in when volunteers are away. Formerly a resident of Blanchet House (one of the agencies that Urban Gleaners works with,) John has a deep understanding of issues of hunger. He is a champion of our Food to Schools Program, ensuring that the best quality fresh foods get delivered to young children in need.
Ben Finley, Driver
Ben became an Urban Gleaners staff member in 2015, and he is thrilled to be a part of a team that is devoted to food rescue and redistribution. The Clark Kent to Ben’s gleaner superman is a musician and mariner–you might find him performing music around town, teaching guitar lessons as part of Portland Music Collective, or captaining a boat on the Lower Willamette and Columbia rivers.
