We are excited to recognize one of our longest standing volunteers for his years of generous service to Urban Gleaners. Robert has been with us for over 5 years, and stops in twice a week with donations from Great Harvest Bread and the Buckman Farmer’s Market. A proud Portlander, Robert grew up in Goose Hollow and attended Lincoln High School. The first time he voted and saw that the polls were volunteer run, he knew that community service would be in his future. After retiring nine years ago, he found his opportunity to make volunteering a central part of his life, and has been active in the Portland community ever since. Along with helping out at Urban Gleaners, Robert volunteers with the Oregon Food Bank pantry program, the Audobon Society, KBOO Community Radio, and the Portland Farmer’s Market. He also walks dogs at a no-kill shelter in SE Portland. He found us through his work at the Buckman market, and enjoys the flexibility of the Urban Gleaners volunteer program. He likes that he can drop off food donations at any time, which works great with a busy schedule. He would like to share the idea of “Noblesse Oblige,” a French phrase literally meaning “Nobility Obliges.” For him this means promoting social responsibility and giving back to your community. It is clear that Robert does just that, and we are ever-grateful to have him on board. Thank you Robert!
